On the night of April 21, Nicholas Ward was found shot a short distance from his home.
The Helena-West Helena Criminal Investigation Department has identified a black male, Adrian Matthews, as the shooter based on the observation of several photos taken by neighbors.
Matthews allegedly shot and robbed Ward, taking his 2001 Chevy Blazer, which was located a short time later in the area of Moore Street in Helena. Matthews was taken into custody Wednesday and his bond was set for a prior charge of aggregated residential burglary for an incident that took place back in January of this year.
According to the CID, Matthews also faces charges of attempted second-degree murder, battery in the 1st degree, and carrying a prohibited weapon during an incident that occurred on the night of April 21. This bond was set at $2.1 million.
CID also reported that Matthews is being charged for his involvement in the April 22 shooting of Malcolm Johnson and this bond was also set at $2.1 million. A collaborative bond total for Matthews has been set at $4.5 million. 
Matthews’ uncle, Chester Thomas, also is being charged with attempted 2nd degree murder, battery in the first-degree, carrying a weapon and possession of a firearm by certain persons.
Thomas’ bond is set at $3.1 million.
