Howard Lawrence Guthrie Sr., 85, of Helena-West Helena, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Memphis. 

 



Howard Lawrence Guthrie Sr., 85, of Helena-West Helena, passed away Saturday, March 24, 2012 at Memphis.  Mr. Guthrie was born August 21, 1926 at Monroe, Arkansas to the late John C. Guthrie and the late Mamie Ridge Guthrie.  He was a member of Trenton Baptist Church and he worked for many years for West Helena Furniture Co.  Mr. Guthrie loved his family, his work and he was avid gardener – he especially liked to grow purple hull peas.



He leaves two daughters, Sharon Davis of Fleming Island, Fla. and Linda Cavette (Donald) of Marvell; a son, Howard Lawrence Guthrie Jr. (Heather); three grandchildren, Christa Penaflor, Bonnie Hill and Lawren Guthrie; two step-grandchildren, Zach and Savannah; three great-grandchildren, Dylan Penaflor, Riley Hill and Landon Guthrie; two sisters, Jean Richmond (Bob) of Trenton and Ruth Johnson of Jonesboro; and a brother, Kenneth Guthrie of Forrest City.



He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Lillian Faye Guthrie, a grandson, Stephen Guthrie, sisters, Alma Cupples, Faye Guthrie and Mildred Guthrie; and brothers, William, Frank and Herbert Guthrie. 



Services for Howard Guthrie will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, March 29 at Roller-Citizens Funeral Home.  Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Roller-Citizens.  Burial will be in Sunset Memorial Park in Helena-West Helena.  Dr. J.E. Hughes will officiate. 



Pallbearers are Vic Richmond, Steven Guthrie, Rusty Evans, Marty Cantwell, Donald Cavette and Dan Dubach.  Honorary pallbearers are Frank Worstell, Rusty Porter and Riley Porter.
