At age 28, Jeremy McKenzie is a recovering alcoholic. McKenzie spent 26 months in an alcohol treatment program before he returned to society at the tender age of 21.
“I have never had a legal drink in my life,” McKenzie told the group of Kiwanians gathered for their weekly noon meal. “I was through with the bar scene before I reached the legal drinking age. And I don’t regret it a single bit.”
McKenzie called himself, “a troubled teen.”  “I knew the right things to do, I just wouldn’t do it.” He didn’t blame his parents or anyone else for his plight, just himself. Fortunately, he said, “I got turned in the right direction.”
McKenzie is the founder and director of Covenant Recovery Inc. in Pine Bluff.  Covenant Recovery is an 18-month program that includes drug and alcohol counseling while teaching recovering substance abusers independent living skills.
