The Warfield Concert season in Helena-West Helena will come to a close with a poignant tribute to the legendary John Denver by Jim Curry, who was the voice of John Denver in the movie, “Take Me Home.”
Sponsored by the Phillips County Community Foundation, “Take Me Home: The Music of John Denver” will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, in Lily Peter Auditorium at Phillips College in Helena-West Helena.
Curry’s musical career began when he wrote and performed the opening song, “The Time of Your Life,” for a play his senior year. Chosen as his class song in 1975, the song led to a college scholarship for Curry to study music. Because Curry’s voice had a similar sound to that of singer/songwriter John Denver, Curry was naturally drawn to Denver’s music and his concerns for environmental awareness. Following Denver’s tragic death in 1997, CBS television produced a movie: “Take Me Home, the John Denver Story” in which Curry landed the singing voice of John Denver.
