Brother Leroy Sample, 69, of Helena-West Helena died April 23, 2011 at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences in Little Rock. He was born Oct. 12, 1941 to Charlie Sample and Gertrude Kennedy in Hughes.
He was married Aug. 21, 1966 to Sarah Evans. To this union one child was born, Natalie Sample. He served as a deacon, superintendent of Sunday School, president of the choir and was a choir member. He was converted in the early 70s. He was a member of Alpha Lodge 233 and a member of Eastern Star Chapter 374.
His parents and four brothers preceded him in death. Sample was well known in the community for many years and worked for a number of years at Hoffinger Industries (Doughboy).
He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Sarah Sample; a daughter, Natalie Sample –Parks of Memphis; four grandsons, Dexter Williams, Camelle Sample, Elton Parks III and Majik Parks; three great grandchildren, O’marrion Williams, Alexandria Williams and Camelle “C. J.” Sample; two brothers, Lepoleon (Nell) Sample and Charlie Sample; two sisters, Terri (Emerson) Nesbitt and Dorothy Sample; an aunt, Mary Benefield of Helena; and a host of nephews, nieces, family and friends.
Visitation for Brother Sample will be from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight at the First Baptist M.B. Church. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the Second Baptist M.B.Church in Helena-West Helena. Rev. L.T. Mapp will officiate. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Cemetery in the Southland community.
Jackson and Highley Funeral Home will direct services.
