Grace Verline Sims-Miller, 70, of Helena-West Helena, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock.

 

Grace Verline Sims-Miller, 70, of Helena-West Helena, died Sunday, Jan. 23, 2011 at Arkansas Hospice Center in Little Rock.
She was born June 2, 1940 in Elaine to Otha Lee Sims and Mary Sue Alice Martin-Sims.
Grace was a 1957 graduate of Holly Grove Vocational High School in Holly Grove. She was a 1973 graduate of the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff (formerly AM&N College), where she received a Bachelor's of Science Degree.
Grace was a dedicated and faithful member of Southland Church of Christ in Helena-West Helena for more than 10 years. She was formerly a member of Biscoe Street Church of Christ for more than 30 years.
Grace was employed as the director of the Mid-Delta Head Start Program of Helena for more than 35 years, before retiring in December 1996.
Grace was very active in her career, church and community. She had a great capacity to love and help anyone in need. She was a very generous person. She was always a hands-on and personally involved with all who knew and loved her.
Grace enjoyed cooking, sewing and listening to gospel music. She took great pride in her career and the people she worked with for so many years.
Her father preceded Grace in death.
Survivors are her husband of 52 years, Walter J. Miller of Helena-West Helena; two daughters, Tanita Miller of Noble, Okla. and Graceylyn (Damon) Brown of Rockwell, Texas; her mother, Mary Sue Alice Martin-Sims of Helena-West Helena; two brothers, Connell (Donna) Sims of Oklahoma City, Okla. and Dr. Larry (Kim) Sims of Memphis; three sisters, Melvyne S. Brown of Chicago, Olivia (Larry) Jefferies of Wensville, Mo. and Michele (Perry) Brown of Little Rock; a grandson Greyson Miller of Rockwall, Texas; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law and friends.
Visitation will be tonight from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Southland Church of Christ, 5226 Highway 242 West in Helena-West Helena.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29 at the Twin City Church of Christ, 1615 Highway 49 in Helena-West Helena with Brother Derek Wilson officiating. Internment will take place in Shady Grove Cemetery in Clarendon by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
