Rondo Community Store at 220 First St. in Rondo, has re-opened its doors to the public.

Rondo Community Store at 220 First St. in Rondo, has re-opened its doors to the public.
Jeff Watts, who ran Kelly's along with his father, Sonny Bernard for 17 years, decided to open the store after having been vacant for 6 months. Watts opened the store because he was fond of the rural environment and the visitors they got to meet traveling down their way.
Watts wanted to slow down and after having been interested in RCS for quite some time, he found some common ground with the regulars.
"This is what I wanted to do," he said. "I would go there to visit Danny and Roxie (the previous owners) but I knew I couldn't run Kelly's and the Community store by myself."
Ben Elder, Bernard's nephew, now helps run Kelly's.
Watts reports that the community store has a full menu from steaks and catfish to burgers and fries, soon, they will be offering plate lunches that include two vegetables, meat and dessert at a convenient price.  Grocery items are also available for those last minute purchases.
"Come out to see us, we're open Mondays through to Thursdays, 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Fridays and Saturdays from 5 a.m. to 8 p.m. We're closed on Sundays," he said.
