Pastor Danny Robinson and some of his church members of the Beautiful Zion Baptist Church on Arkansas St. in Helena served a hot traditional turkey dinner in the spirit of the holidays free to the community Monday.
Funds were donated from GIF Funding, represented by Jack Crumbly, through the Area Agency on Aging, as well as the hospitality of many volunteers. The donation went toward the purchase of 50 turkeys that were cooked and served at their pre-Thanksgiving dinner for the elderly and the homeless and 25 more for other organizations.
The hot meal included turkey, stuffing, green beans, black-eyed peas, potato salad, bread, cake, and refreshments.
“Our goal is to try to reach out to about 300 people, God willing,” said Robinson. “We also delivered some meals to those who unfortunately didn’t have the means to travel.”
Beautiful Zion also plans to have a Christmas dinner close to Christmas.
