Thanksgiving is tomorrow and Christmas is just around the corner.  For most, the Holiday Season is a time of joy and fellowship with friends and families. But for some it can be a time of difficulty and loneliness, especially for a foster child who will be spending the holidays without his/her own family.
“The Phillips County Department of Health and Human Services Division of Children and Family Services of Helena would like to remind everyone that with Christmas drawing near, it is time to say ‘thanks’ for the joy you may have given a foster child in the past by donating a gift or sponsoring a child,” said Evelyn Chambers, county supervisor of Phillips County Children and Family Services.
The agency is once again advocating on behalf of children who will be spending Christmas without their own family.
“Please make the unhappiness become more bearable by making one of our special kids smile on Christmas morning,” stated Chambers. “Please make a monetary donation, sponsor a particular child, or purchase a gift from one of the many ‘wish lists’ that have been given to us by our children.”
Chambers said she considers each child special because they have been forced to endure situations they have found themselves in by no fault of their own. The children have been removed from their families as a result of abuse or neglect creating an imminent risk factor relating to their health and safety.
Contributions can be made payable to Phillips County Foster Children’s Christmas, P.O. box 277, Helena, AR 72342. To sponsor a foster child or buy gifts listed on the “wish lists” please contact Chambers, Jackie Henry or Mary Clark at 870-338-8391.
