Mrs. Naomi Alexander Johnson, 84, of Helena-West Helena, took her heavenly flight on Thursday, Nov. 11, 2010. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 20 at the First Baptist Church at 125 North Coanza. There will be a public viewing from 8:30 to 10:50 a.m. before the funeral at First Baptist Church. Dr. Nathaniel Hull Sr., pastor of First Baptist Church, will officiate. Burial will follow in Mt. Olive Cemetery, Sandtuck Community, Marvell area.
Naomi Alexander was born Oct. 2, 1926 to the late Rev. Frederick Douglas and Ethel (Hull) Alexander. She accepted Jesus as Lord at the age of 12 in Mt. Olive Church, Sandtuck Community.
Naomi was a vibrant part of church activities at Mt. Olive until she moved to West Helena to attend public school. During Naomi’s first year as a student at Westside School (then an elementary through senior high school) she met her future husband, Rochester Johnson and the two were wed on March 7, 1945.
Naomi Johnson leaves to treasure her memory, her husband, Rochester Johnson and four children, Ardell (Helen) Johnson of Little Rock, Samella Johnson Williams of Helena-West Helena, Freddie Johnson of Conway and Regina Johnson Simes of Helena-West Helena; 7 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; 3 sisters, Marvella Humphrey of Chicago, Dorsey Robinson and Flossie Bingham, both of Marvell; an uncle, Rev. Willie D. Hull and an aunt, Rev. Ellice Erby, both of California. Those also commemorating her life include several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, children in Christ and friends.
Two brothers, Samuel Alexander and Welton Alexander Sr. and 3 sisters, Dozie Ella Jones, Maud Etta Alexander and Arlena Alexander, preceded her in death.
