James Tillman Strayhorn, 82 of Marvell, died early Sunday morning at Crestpark Nursing Home in Helena.

 

James Tillman Strayhorn, 82 of Marvell, died early Sunday morning at Crestpark Nursing Home in Helena.
Tillman was born in White County, Arkansas on March 13, 1928 to the late Newman and Reba Shackelford Strayhorn.  He was an Army veteran of the Korean conflict, and a member of the County Line Missionary Baptist Church of Marvell.  Before his retirement he worked at Mohawk Rubber Co. in West Helena and as a fertilizer distributor for the Wycamp Corp. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a talented carpenter.
His wife Helen Joyce McKaskle preceded James in death.
Survivors include his five sons, Rick Strayhorn of Sherwood, Mike Strayhorn of Barton, Kenneth Strayhorn of Marvell, Scott Strayhorn and his wife, Sherry, of Helena-West Helena, and John Strayhorn and wife, Staciah, of DeWitt; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at Bob Neal & Sons-Brickell Chapel today at 10 a.m. with Brother Larry Rice officiating. Burial will follow in the Schaffhauser Cemetery at Marvell.
Pallbearers will be Paul Black, Kotton Guest, Matt Strayhorn, Gordon McKaskle, Jimmy Ray McKaskle and Bill McKaskle, Jr.
