Mid-Delta Transit will receive $34,000 for one, 13-passenger van as part of $950,000 in U.S. Department of Transportation funds released for transportation organizations statewide.
“I am pleased to announce this investment that will provide local transportation organizations with the resources they need to offer high-quality service,” Senator Blanche Lincoln said. “It is crucial that Arkansans have access to reliable transportation so they can commute to work, school, and other activities. I will continue my fight to secure federal investments that improve Arkansas’s transportation infrastructure.”
The Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department will provide funds for local transit authorities and transportation companies to purchase buses, vans and security cameras. Funds will support urban and rural transportation, including service for the elderly and people with disabilities.
“Transportation services are important resources for Arkansans, helping residents travel quickly and efficiently and allowing the elderly and people with disabilities to lead active lives,” Senator Mark Pryor commented. “These funds will help transportation organizations across Arkansas serve more residents and improve their operations.”
“I think it is great that we are supporting many of our elderly and disabled Arkansans, as well as residents in urban and rural areas that rely heavily on these transportation services in their daily lives,” Congressman Marion Berry stated.
“I am proud to help announce this funding because when we invest in our local communities, we invest in our future, attracting more industry and creating much-needed jobs for Arkansas.” “This funding has enabled our Department to provide vehicles to organizations that offer important transportation services to many in our communities,” said Dan Flowers, Arkansas State Highway and Transportation Department director.
