It’s tournament time for the elite boys and girls who performed during the regular season at the J.R. House Athletic Complex which mean they will travel west for their respective engagements.
The girls 10-under team will begin play in the state tournament Friday night at Van Buren while the 12-under girls team will travel a bit farther north to Bentonville for their state competition this weekend. Their opponents have not been announced yet.
The boys 12-under and 10-under will compete in their respective district tournaments in the Grand Prairie this weekend.
The 12-under boys’ team will face Hazen in a first-round game 4 p.m. Friday at Carlisle.
The 10-under boys team drew a first-round bye and will take on the loser of Friday’s Clarendon-Marion 1 matchup at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Lonoke.
This marks the first year for the girls to play in fast pitch competition.
Jason Turner, one of the coaches for the 10-under girls’ all-stars, said Monday fast pitch softball had been an awakening after slow-pitch softball came to an end for girls and women’s teams in the Delta.
“It may take a few years for the girls around here to get accustomed to fast pitch softball. It’s a lot different,” Turner said.
Turner has been coaching several years including a role as a women’s coach.
Jeff Wages, in his first year as president of the Twin City Athletic Association and manager of the Dr. Lance’s 16-under girls softball team, said he believed the girls “have come on rather well this being their first year in fast pitch softball.”
The boys 11-12 all-star team has been announced. They include Adam Byrd, Pud Faulkner, Keeland Graves, Michael Hall, Cody Robertson, Tyson Morris, T.J. Harris, Drake Bonner, Khiren Crawford and Matt James. Alternatives are Tucker VonKanel and Austin Miller.
The 7-8 boys all-star team members are: Caleb Chisnall, Owen Bartlett, Jagger King, Dalton Yarbrough, Tyas Martin, Ethan Ward, Nash VonKanel, Curtis Hoover, Dakota Snowden, Cade Carnathan, Garrett Green and Davin Martin.
