Juanita Johnson, 74, died Wednesday, Nov. 18, 2009 at Helena Regional Medical Center. Juanita, born Feb. 27, 1935 to the late Aaron Ashley Phillips and Mosella Marshall in Walls, Miss., will be laid to rest Saturday, Nov. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m.
Services will be held at the New Haven M.B. Church at 404 West St., in West Helena. Interment will follow at First Baptist Church Cemetery in Elaine and the repast in the First Baptist Fellowship Hall.
Visitation is Friday, Nov. 27, 2009 at Jackson-Highly Funeral Home chapel from 4-6 p.m.
She accepted the Lord as her personal savior in 1949 at the Mt. Olive M.B. Church near Horn Lake, Miss. She later moved to Snow Lake to be with her mother where she joined Pleasant Valley Baptist Church pastured by Rev. McPipe.
She married Jimmy Johnson, Jr., on March 31, 1956. To this union, eight children were born, two of who preceded her in death.
They moved to Mosby joining Precious Grove M.B. Church now under the leadership of Bishop Leroy Carter, Jr., where she was a faithful member for over 40 years. She served as usher and on the mother’s board.
Her parents; two brothers, Joseph and James White; three sisters, Elizabeth Ross, Vera Davis and Bernice Crutchfield; and a stepfather, L.C. Hailey, Sr., preceded her in death.
She leaves to cherish her wonderful memory, six children, Rose (Tommy) Shears of Lakeview, Jeffery (Sharon) Johnson of Oakland, Calif., Vincent (Karen) Johnson and Evelyn Johnson-Whitelow of Memphis, Marilyn (William) Anderson of Sacramento, Calif., Terry (Cynthia) Johnson of Little Rock; a sister, Minnie Pearl Buford of Memphis; four step-sisters and two step-brothers (the Hailey’s) of Chicago; a step-mother, Doris Hailey of Chicago; a goddaughter, Mayola Partee of Sacramento; two life long friends, Alge Franklin and Jessie Partee; two sisters-in-law; a brother-in-law; 12 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
