Funeral services for Clarence “Butch” Washington, 86, of Helena-West Helena will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, July 2, 2009 at the Phillips, Lee, Monroe and Desha District Center at Helena Crossing with Rev. Clarence Washington Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in Jackson Memorial Cemetery in Southland.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, July 1 in the Stephens Funeral Home chapel in Helena-West Helena.
Washington was born March 12, 1923 in Lula, Miss. to the late Carrie and Moses Washington. A sister, Quilla; four brothers, Robert, Bob, Oscar and Willie; a daughter, Precious; two sons, Troy and Johnny; and a granddaughter, Diane, preceded him in death.
International Harvester employed him for many years and he also worked as a farmer and local business owner. He enjoyed cooking and was well known for his barbeque.
On Wednesday, June 24, 2009, Butch departed this life at Helena Regional Medical Center surrounded by his family.
He leaves to cherish his memory, a brother, Charles Lee Washington of Chicago; seven sons, Clarence (Gloria) Washington, of Glassboro, N.J., Hosea (Vickie) Dortch of North Little Rock, Vincent Washington of Milwaukee, Wis., Gregory Washington of Goldsboro, N.C., Earnest (Sharon) Washington of Jonesboro, Michael Bradley of Atlanta, Ga. and Terry (Anita) Washington of Helena-West Helena; seven daughters, Louise Wilhite, Lorene (Bobby) Williams of Milwaukee, Wis., Lucille Townes of East St. Louis, Ill., Kocysha White of Little Rock, Katrina Washington of Conway, Karena Washington of St. Louis and Nicole Bradley of Helena-West Helena; and by a godchild, Noami Scales Walker; 19 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and other loving relatives and friends. He also leaves his special friend and companion of many years, Sarah Bradley.
Stephens Funeral Home will conduct services.
