The Twin City Pony League All-Stars played heads-up ball this weekend in the District Tournament here
After struggling in the field and on the mound in a sloppily-played 14-10 win over Brinkley Friday, the 15-year-olds took it to host team Lonoke, 9-5, in Saturday’s second round contest.
Manager Travis Williams and his TC All-Stars went into the district showdown Monday night with a 2-0 record and a win away from the crown while Lonoke had to win two games.
TC got strong pitching performances from Tyler Moore Friday and Josh Williams Saturday.
TC fell behind, 6-1, against Brinkley, before getting its offense in gear for the win.
Despite termperatures in the high 90s Saturday, TC showed resilience in jumping in front 3-0 and at one point held an 8-2 edge before Lonoke rallied to make it closer at 8-5 going into the seventh inning. Bryan Dunlap stole home to trigger TC’s three-run first inning outburst.
Manager Williams made a loneup switch and moved  his son Josh to the mound to shut the door on Lonoke. Conner Crossett closed out the scoring with the ninth Twin City run in the seventh.
A report on Monday night’s action will appear Wednesday.
