Funeral services for Jacobs announced.


Funeral services for Brother Preston A. Jacobs were held Saturday, March 28 at the New Zion M.B. Church.  Rev. Julius McGruder officiated. Burial was in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Jacobs, born Aug. 18, 1953 to Jessie and Elizabeth Jacobs in West Helena, died March 19, 2009 at Helena Regional Medical Center.

Preston attended Westside Elementary School and Eliza Miller High School where he played football. Preston loved all sports.

As a truck driver, Preston drove all across the state and shared a business with his brother, Sam. He loved music and people, and always opened his home to anyone in need.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessie and Elizabeth Jacobs, grandparents, Preston and Beatrice Jacobs; Willie and Edna Wallace; a brother, Samuel Jacobs; a sister, Collette Jacobs; five nieces; four aunts; and six uncles.

He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Truman Dodd of Milwaukee, Wis.; a daughter, Carla Ayers of Helena-West Helena; two granddaughters, Miyah Dodd and Jayla Dodd of Milwaukee; six sisters, Lela Clay of Milwaukee, Bertha Pryor, Claudia Wilson, Bessie Jacobs, all of Ann Arbor, Mich., Debra Hemphill of Killeen, Texas and Sharon Walker of Ypsilanti, Mich.; four aunts, Pep, Pearl, Ollie Booker and Mary (Jessie) Jennings and an uncle, William (Barbara) Jacobs of Chicago; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, friends and special friends, Lois Gardner, Calvin Holder and Charles Winfield.
