The long and winding road came to a disappointing end Tuesday for Marvell Academy’s Lady Eagles.
  The Lady Eagles hung on to the last before falling, 42-39, to Marshall Academy in the opening round of the overall state tournament on the campus of Mississippi College.
   No further details were available. In accordance with the formula for the overall state crown, Marvell Academy, winner of District 1A and a third-place finisher in the state Class A tournament last Saturday at Flowood, was taking on a strong Class 2A school.
   Marshall Academy from Holly Springs, Miss., faces Magnolia Heights from Senatobia, Miss. in the next round.

    Basketball continues for the Barton Bears who travel to Jessieville today for a Class 3A regional game at 8:30 p.m.
   Jessieville is located near Hot Springs Village in Garland County.

   Central’s Cougars and Cougarettes close out their regular season in games Friday night at Paragould.
   They played their final home games Tuesday night against Wynne.
   At stake are berths in the Class 5A state tournament next week at Alma.
