Two boys and a girl went fishing in a creek and found human bones. Search crews have found others but were still looking for more on Thursday, including the skull.
"We've spent the last five days in the creek. It's heavily snake-infested. But we're still searching," Minden Police Detective Dan Weaver said Thursday.
He said the Arkansas State Crime Lab found that the bones were those of a man about 6 feet tall, but so little flesh remained that his race and weight are unknown.
The neck bones did not show any trauma, Weaver said. "So we don't think we have a body that's been dismembered, which is important."
The three juveniles found a leg and foot on June 18, Weaver said. Searchers found ribs and part of the spinal cord soon afterward, draped across an elevated pipeline.
Since then, says Weaver, the Four States Search and Rescue Team and cadaver dogs from three states have found both arms, both legs, and a piece of flesh.
Nobody has been reported missing in Minden, he said, and police have been checking up on street people "just to be sure everybody who would not be reported missing is accounted for."
Police have accounted for 32 of the 35 on their list, he said.
They're also checking reports of people missing from within 100 miles of Minden, which is 32 miles east-northeast of Shreveport.
Weaver said the youngsters didn't appear traumatized by their find. "They were down there the next day swimming. We had to run them off" for the search, he said.
