On March 19-21, University of Arkansas students and staff members will facilitate Dream B.I.G. (Believing in Girls) for the girls of the Marvell-Elaine School District in Fayetteville. The focus of the camp will be to create a “cultural shift” by exposing the girls to an area of the state that is geographically and economically diverse with an emphasis in the arts and higher education.
Phase one of the renovation of the Helena Museum of Phillips County officially got underway Monday. The roof repair will be the first of five phases of the renovation project of what many local historians believe to be one of the oldest existing buildings in Helena.
As far back as the 1900s Helena held a Mardi Gras celebration similar to the one in the “Big Easy” also known as New Orleans. According to local businessman Sam Elardo, the festivities were discontinued around World War I.
